My Mum was working full time at this point and coming home from work after 6pm, so instead of preparing a meat meal for us and a veggie dish for my Sister, she looked into meat alternatives. We had a terrible experience with Tofu fajitas but Spaghetti Bolognaise made with Quorn mince actually tasted quite good. Quorn mince has 80% less saturated fat than even lean beef mince and is a great source of essential nutrients. It also contains no cholesterol. My Mum started cooking with Quorn quite regularly as it was really easy to adapt meat recipes by substituting the meat with Quorn. My Sister didn't get to miss out on her bacon butties once she found Quorn bacon slices!
I definitely enjoy meat too much to change to Quorn but I can say I've tried it and it wasn't as bad as you think. I think I will try my Spaghetti Bolognaise with Quorn next time my Sister visits. I'll just need to substitute the chicken stock cube for a vegetable one and the mince with Quorn. I wonder what the kids will make of it?!
There are hundreds of recipe ideas on the Quorn website and on their Facebook page if you are thinking of being more health conscious as a family without any extra effort at meal times!
